Conservatives win important primaries in Georgia, Arkansas

By Sebastian Hughes

Retired NFL star Herschel Walker won the Republican primary for Georgia’s 2022 Senate race Tuesday, according to multiple election forecasters.

Walker was drafted into the race by former President Donald Trump, eventually garnering the support of establishment figures like Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

He was long considered to be the frontrunner in the race, posting massive polling leads throughout the campaign.

Walker will face freshman incumbent Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, who won his seat in a 2020 special election, in November. Warnock is one of the first two Democratic senators to represent the state of Georgia in the Senate since 2005.

Georgia is considered to be a key battleground state in the midterms after President Joe Biden’s narrow victory in the 2020 presidential election. Its Senate race is rated as a “toss-up” by the Cook Political Report.

David Perdue, another Trump-endorsed candidate who lost to Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in 2020, fared far worse in polling as he struggled to mount a challenge against incumbent Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp.

Lakshya Jain, an election analyst who writes for Split Ticket, told The Daily Caller News Foundation that Warnock is more likely to win in November than fellow Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams, who is running for governor.

“Abrams under-runs Warnock in basically every single one of these suburbs and we see it in every single poll,” Jain told TheDCNF. “It has to do with the fact that he’s viewed as less extreme by the electorate.”

An Associated Press investigation of public records tied to Walker’s businesses and divorce found that he allegedly threatened his ex-wife’s life and displayed violent and abusive behavior towards her and himself, and that he exaggerated his entrepreneurial success.

Walker told Axios in December that he’s “accountable” for his previous violent behavior as he struggled with mental health, but that he is “better now than 99% of the people in America. … Just like I broke my leg; I put the cast on. It healed.”

Sarah Huckabee Sanders Wins Arkansas GOP Governor Primary

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, White House press secretary during the Trump administration, won the Republican nomination for Arkansas’ 2022 gubernatorial race on Tuesday, according to multiple election forecasters.

Sanders’ only opponent on election day was Doc Washburn, a former conservative radio talk show host. State Lieutenant Governor Tim Griffin and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, dropped out of the race before election day, with the former choosing to leave the race only two weeks after Sanders’ announcement.

Her campaign reported massive fundraising hauls over the course of the race, bringing in more than $14 million between her announcement and April 2022, the Associated Press reported. She had almost $7.4 million on hand as of April.

Sanders launched her campaign in Jan. 2021, receiving the endorsement of both former President Donald Trump and current Republican Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

“Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a warrior who will always fight for the people of Arkansas and do what is right, not what is politically correct,” Trump said in his endorsement.

“I’ve known Sarah Huckabee Sanders most of her life and know firsthand her love for our state and her heart for public service,” Hutchinson said in his endorsement announcement. “Sarah has earned the Republican nomination and I’m delighted today to endorse her for Governor. The state of Arkansas will be in good hands with Sarah as Governor, and she has my full support.”

Sanders is the daughter of former Republican Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who was in office between 1996 and 2007. He ran for president in 2008 and 2016 but lost the GOP primary to former Arizona Sen. John McCain and Trump, respectively.

  1. I’m sorry, but Joe Biden did not have a narrow victory over President Trump in the 2020 election! There is plenty of evidence that the swing States had massive fraud, but unfortunately the RINOs in several States will not fight to bring this to light. Shameful cowards.

    • Massive fraud in over 20 states who had counties reporting over 100% of
voter roles voting. For the states/courts to ignore this blatant fact is a travesty
to vote integrity. It should also be a treasonous charge to those in charge and end to the jan/6th witch hunt which was a rightful protest.

      • Sara Huckabee Sanders seems like a strong capable candidate. Hershell Walker does not.

There is a need to move beyond the voter fraud claims as determining the 2020 election. There has been no credible evidence of significant voter fraud and this false grievance issue distracts from legitimate concerns. Most telling is the recent Republican primary in Pennsylvania which has still not been decided mirrors in many ways the 2020 election, but there are no claims of a fraudulent election.
