Citizens continue to fund border wall as Democrat lawmakers stall

By Bethany Blankley | Watchdog.org

While the U.S. government remains in partial shutdown over funding of a border wall, a Purple Heart triple-amputee veteran, Brian Kolfage, started a crowd-sourced campaign to build the wall, later supported by Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., and Rep. Gelnn Grotham, R-Wis.

On the first day of the 116th Congress, Republican Congressman Glenn Grothman introduced “The People’s Border Wall Fund Act,” which would allow the money Kolfage has raised to fund the building of the border wall.

“As a veteran who has given so much, three limbs, I feel deeply invested to this nation to ensure future generations have everything we have today,” Kolfage states on We the People Will Fund the WallGoFundMe.com site.

Purple Heart triple-amputee veteran Brian Kolfage has raised over $20 million dollars from U.S. citizens to fund a border wall. In response, Twitter has censored his campaign, and left-wing opponents of a border wall have issued death threats against him and his family members.

To date, more than 343,500 people have raised more than $20.5 million to fund the border wall. The stated goal is to raise $1 billion, one-fifth of what President Trump has requested from Congress.

“If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall,” Kolfage said. The amount would approximately total the $5 billion projected to build the wall.

Rep. Grothman’s bill would create a trust fund within the U.S. Department of Treasury to allow public donations to be deposited and used for the design, construction and maintenance of a U.S.-Mexican border wall.

Grothman stated the bill “would allow the American people to actively take part in making America safer by allowing them to personally fund the construction of a wall on the southern border.”

“For too long, illegal drugs, guns and criminals have poured over our unsecure southern border,” Grothman said. “Concerned Wisconsinites frequently ask me if there is a way they can personally contribute to the funding of a border wall. As it stands now, there isn’t. That’s why I am proud to answer the call of Wisconsinites in the Sixth District and introduce this bill that will fulfill their request to strengthen national security.”

The proposed legislation stipulates that the Department of the Treasury would be required to notify the public of the existence of the account, along with the current amount of funds and total amount donated over time.

In the 115th Congress, U.S. Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, introduced a bill that would allow funds from the account to solely fund the construction of the border wall. It was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.

U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., introduced the “Border Bonds for America Act,” which would allow U.S. citizens to purchase revenue bonds from the U.S. Treasury to fund the building of a border wall. He said the bill “is a safe investment into the infrastructure and security of our country,” comparing it to the World War II-era bonds that helped fund the war effort.

Kolfage pledges that 100 percent of donations will solely go toward funding the border wall.

Kolfage reports that in addition to the campaign being censored on Twitter, he and his family have received death threats. An update on the campaign page states that anti-wall individuals are “calling for the death of my wife and children.”

  1. Democrats want open borders, and if there are walls, they want them to be porous, i.e., kept in poor condition, easily climbed over, and crawled under.

Nancy Pelosi, worth well over $500 million, has a very high wall around her Beverly Hills compound. It keeps out the unwanted riff-raff trying to visit her.

There is a whole infrastructure, on both sides of the border, of Democrat-supported government programs to help legal and illegal immigrations get drivers licenses, voting rights, permanent residency and work permits (green cards) and citizenship.

The folks who run these programs, and those who benefit from them will vote Democrat forever.

It is all about getting, and maintaining, and permanently enlarging the Democrat power base at the expense of the Republicans, as has happened in California, the 100% RE state with solar panels mandated on every roof, and wannabe copycat, but too poor, Vermont.

I hope Trump will declare a national emergency and get a proper, 30-ft tall, steel wall built. It is al least 40 years overdue.

The French are leading the way in Europe with their yellow vest protests. That movement will become unstoppable the more it is resisted by governments, which are using water guns, rubber bullets, pepper spray and teargas to suppress demonstrations.

The French government enacting anti-protest laws will make matters much worse.

France needs a 25% surtax on fashion, perfumes, cosmetics, upscale watches and jewelry, upscale cars, upscale air travel, upscale cruise ship travel, private planes, and eliminate the tax and expense evasion of company cars.

The last thing the French working people need is another carbon tax on gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil and propane. In Paris, gasoline costs the equivalent of $9.00/gallon, of which 70% is taxes.

How much of a TIN EAR does Le Roi Macron has?

    Does he not get it?

  2. Nancy can’t travel on military air craft. Great. Stay home and come to the table. Saying “no” regardless to a wall with the demand that the President give her 110% of what she wants is a non starter and she knows it. BUILD THE WALL, BUILD THE WALL. Nancy the balls in your court.

  3. DemocRATs, they’ll try anything to stop The President, you talk about hypocrites they all wanted
a wall/fence a few years back now it’s ” immoral ” to them !! Let’s see if they have a fence around there property …… Oh yeah, they do !!

DemocRATs, they don’t want a wall/fence because it will mean their base will diminish and their
seats in the house will also………….. It’s just politics, nothing to do with security for it people.

If DemocRATS won’t meet and compromise……. then keep the Government shut down and
no salaries should be paid to anyone in the House or Senate ( all Parties )

  4. In the Democrat-controlled House, this bill will go nowhere. The Democrats will not approve it, even though it costs the taxpayers nothing.
