Christina Nolan: Peter Welch has stood in way of opposing ‘defund the police’ movement

Burlington – Today, Christina Nolan, Vermont’s former United States Attorney and Republican candidate for United States Senate, issued the following statement on President Biden’s proposed FY 2023 budget:

“While I was pleased that President Biden’s budget includes additional funding for federal law enforcement, I remain very concerned that politicians on the extreme are still supporting efforts to defund the police. My opponent, Congressman Peter Welch, has stood in the way of efforts to oppose this dangerous movement. Just last weekend, a police officer provided life-saving treatment to a victim of gunshot wounds in a parking garage in downtown Burlington. Even as crime rises, some politicians continue to demonize and belittle law enforcement rather than support and stand by those who put their lives on the line every day. As Vermont’s former U.S. Attorney, I have a tough-on-crime record, and I intend to continue prioritizing public safety as our state’s next United States Senator. I have been a strong supporter of law enforcement throughout my time in public service. Congressman Welch cannot say the same, and that is why we need a new direction and fresh perspective for Vermonters.”

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

On March 3, 2021, Welch Voted Against A Motion To Recommit To Condemn Calls To “Defund”, “Disband”, “Dismantle”, Or “Abolish” The Police. “Ms. MALLIOTAKIS. Madam Speaker, I have a motion to recommit at the desk. The SPEAKER pro tempore. The Clerk will report the motion to recommit. The Clerk read as follows: Ms. Malliotakis moves to recommit the bill H.R. 1280 to the Committee on the Judiciary. The material previously referred to by Ms. Malliotakis is as follows: Add, at the end of the bill, the following (and conform the table of contents): SEC. 503. SENSE OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The SPEAKER pro tempore. Pursuant to clause 2(b) of rule XIX, the previous question is ordered on the motion to recommit. The question is on the motion to recommit. The question was taken; and the Speaker pro tempore announced that the noes appeared to have it.” (H.R. 1280, Roll Call Vote #59: Failed 208-219, 3/3/21, Welch Voted Nay; Congressional Record, 3/3/21, p. 1. wethecom,
“I remain very concerned that politicians on the extreme are still supporting efforts to defund the police.”
    Also,
“My opponent, Congressman Peter Welch, has stood in the way of efforts to oppose this dangerous movement.”
I do not know enough about her yet, but misquoting is not a good way to start.
Just so people know a local police is a “we the people” thing, whereas they are actually trying to make a police force that is run FEDERALLY. We should all agree that would be a bad thing.

Did you even read the article?

    • No need to dis a reliable and usually well thought out commenter – would you have Karenized a fellow Nolanite -appears to be a continual skirmish between those who support this Rino and those who don’t ma’am.

      • 1st… No, mistakes like that NEED to be corrected asap.
2nd we all have moments of blurry… best not to say anything then….
        3rd
I am a dude….. just because my name starts with a girls name…. remember Shannon Sharpe or better yet how about the old Johnny Cash song “A Boy Named Sue”
4th give us a name of someone with the resources to be in the race.Maybe they are better, but sending that fellow Welch is a BAD MOVE. Especially if you want something actually done.
Lastly I am no Keran or Ken. You want to be stupid that’s on you, as long as it does not take from my pocket or tresspass on my land.

        • Main point is you’re a Nolan Rino supporter attacking a non-supporter which is the real point here… messy comment notwithstanding…pretty sure if it was a fellow Nolanite not quite so heated sir.

          • I will say again… it is not about if I will voter for her, I only point out that to say someone is FOR something they specifically said they were opposed to is not correct and if you continue it becomes a lie. I care nothing for the people if they are “rinos” . I just want people to actually read an article THEN make a comment. I don’t know enough, in fact, much of nothing about her, but that was a real BAD misquote. To equate my support for her is as bad as the misquote from above.

  2. didnt know she was for defunding the police
i couldn’t get her to do her gob for nothing..
    she was a boot licker..
maybe it was because i was a gun owner
