Cannabis retailing just around the corner for Middlebury

Police Chief Thomas Hanley reported that the first step involved will be creating a Middlebury Cannabis Control Commission. Hanley noted that the commission will be composed of the Selectboard primarily as a means to license cannabis retail operations in town.

Levine says most unvaccinated Vermonters still want the shot, national poll says otherwise

Health Commissioner Mark Levine says that Vermonters who have not taken their COVID-19 vaccines are largely still planning to. However, a new ABC News/Washington Post poll of unvaccinated Americans shows nearly three-quarters of them do not expect to get the shots.

New Hampshire diversity councilors resign over ‘divisive concepts’ ban

Ten members of the 16-member Governor’s Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion submitted a letter of resignation to Sununu citing his support for the provision of the spending package he signed last week that prohibits teaching about systemic racism and sexism in public schools and state-funded programs.

H.157 passed in the state Senate on June 24, 2021, by a vote of 21-9. The purpose of the bill is to mandate that construction contractors register with the state and conform to certain regulatory requirements in order to legally do business on residential homes in Vermont.

Senate approves landlord-funded rental unit registry, overrides governor’s vetoes on noncitizen voting

The Vermont Senate approved a bill Thursday during the veto session that would create a new bureaucracy funded by landlords to track and regulate the safety standards for rental units statewide. The upper chamber also voted to override Gov. Phil Scott’s vetoes of noncitizen voting in Winooski and Montpelier.
