Gov. Phil Scott has signed an executive order to accelerate a series of reforms and modernizations of public safety services in Vermont, and to initiate a comprehensive, ongoing discussion with state residents — especially historically marginalized communities — about how law enforcement can best serve communities’ needs.
His focus will now be to support the many qualified Republican candidates for office in November, especially those who have stood up with him to focus attention on Vermont’s looming economic problems, particularly its underfunded state pensions system and unsustainably expensive schools.
“It is as though Planned Parenthood had the Attorney General’s Office on retainer. Attorney General TJ Donovan’s use of public resources for the benefit of his favored special interest group is inappropriate.”
“Schools should take this extra time to make sure systems are ready and effective, so we can deliver for our children, and build confidence in the public education system’s ability to be flexible and responsive,” said Governor Scott.
Under the Secretary’s 2020 Statewide Elections Directive, ballots will be mailed to every active registered voter for the 2020 General Election. Active registered voters are those voters who have not been issued a challenge by the local Boards of Civil Authority.
“Vermont’s June data mirrored national level changes with an increase in the number of jobs and a decline in the unemployment rate. This captures only some of the economic story here and across the country. Unemployment insurance claims continue to be elevated.”
It is with great disappointment, but little surprise that we have learned of the VT Democratic Party’s Executive Director’s plan to blatantly mischaracterize the VT Republican Party’s position on expanding voting access during the pandemic.
“While the May numbers show a positive change from the prior month, we are still in the middle of a global pandemic that is significantly impacting Vermont’s economy.”
As state data and expanded testing and tracing capacity continue to support reopening, Governor Phil Scott today announced the state will raise occupancy limits for event venues, arts, culture and entertainment venues, as well as restaurants.
The Vermont Agency of Education (AOE) has released an updated version of the Annual Snapshot with additional indicators and updated data. This release coincides with release of the 2019 Smarter Balanced assessment scores.
