The Burlington City Council on Monday night will consider a Public Safety Continuity Plan developed by Mayor Miro Weinberger. The plan places the blame for a looming shortfall in police coverage squarely on the “defund the police” vote held last June.
“By bringing together our public safety and enforcement functions under one agency, we will see better coordinated operations, including training and accountability, as well as a consistent culture of fair and impartial policing.”
“I want to stress that to my knowledge not one Republican I know has plans to attend, or has any interest in attending such an event here. While VT holds a proud tradition of a right to bear arms, doing so at this rally in our current climate in light of what happened last week would demonstrate an incredible lapse of judgment.”
In a situation where a part of the illegal activity occurred in Vermont or otherwise had a connection to Vermont — such as an individual conspiring in Vermont to commit a federal crime in Washington, D.C., and then traveling to D.C. and committing that crime — then there would be venue in federal court in Vermont.
“This was a coordinated attack by the tech giants to kill competition in the market place. We were too successful too fast. You can expect the war on competition and free speech to continue.”

Public Safety Commissioner Michael Schirling has issued a statement regarding his decision to suspend Sgt. Lucas Hall of the Vermont State Police for reportedly expressing support of the Jan. 6 Trump rally in Washington, D.C.
“Vermonters turned out in record numbers this election, and they delivered what I believe was a clear mandate for practical, principled and cooperative leadership. They also delivered us split-party government, asking us to listen to all voices and all ideas, and work together.”
A group of Vermont parents are suing the state and local school districts over unequal access to education under the state’s 150-year-old Town Tuitioning system.
Gov. Phil Scott today announced the arrival in Vermont of the first 1,950 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. This is the first portion of the 5,850 doses coming to Vermont this week.
“While this was a difficult decision to make, we cannot take any risks during a time that cases are increasing here in Vermont, and even more so in our surrounding states,” Condos said.
“So, again, the skeptics are right. They can do what they want. But please don’t call it patriotic or pretend it’s about freedom. Because real patriots serve and sacrifice for all, whether they agree with them or not.”
