Gov. Phil Scott and Sen. Bernie Sanders announce nearly $4 million in grants for youth summer programs

The funds will create 31,650 new summer program slots over the course of the summer, lead to a total of 238 new weeks of summer programming and decrease the average weekly cost to families by $162.

Sanders announces nearly $1.4 billion for Vermont in committee passage of transportation bill

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Wednesday announced that the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act, which today passed out of the Environment and Public Works Committee, will include nearly $1.4 billion for Vermont’s roads, bridges, and transit systems.

Governor Phil Scott announces threshold to remove all Covid-19 restrictions

“Because Vermonters have answered the call, today I am announcing an opportunity to eliminate all restrictions sooner than originally planned. So, here is my challenge to Vermonters: If we hit 80%, I will lift any remaining restrictions and mandates that day. To reach 80%, we will need to vaccinate 27,954 more Vermonters.”

Gov. Phil Scott lifts mask mandate for vaccinated individuals, accelerates Vermont Forward plan

Following CDC guidance, masking and physical distancing for fully vaccinated Vermonters — except in limited circumstances like in schools, on public transportation, healthcare settings, long term care facilities, prisons etc. — is no longer required. The mandate remains in place for those who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Department of Environmental Conservation releases updated greenhouse gas emissions inventory for Vermont

The change in methodology has implications for Vermont’s overall emissions profile as transportation represents the largest single source of GHG emissions, and estimated transportation-related emissions are generally lower using the fuel sales-based methodology as compared to the VMT methodology.

Vermont Department of Labor temporarily suspends online UI application for new filers in order to combat fraud

The Vermont Department of Labor disabled its online unemployment insurance initial claim application in response to a sharp increase in fraudulent claims being filed. Upon review of the claims being submitted, more than 90% of initial claims were being flagged as fraudulent.

Vermont Senate gives preliminary approval to universal school breakfast bill

The Vermont Senate on Thursday unanimously gave preliminary approval to a bill that would bring Universal School Breakfast to all Vermont schools by 2022. The bill (S.100) would make Vermont the first state in the nation to provide breakfast free of charge to all public school students every school day.
