Opinion: Proposal 5 is a can of unintended consequences

Proposal 5 is being hyped by politicians and the media as a means of protecting at the state level the abortion rights conferred by Roe v. Wade at the federal level. This is inaccurate, and, from a legal standpoint, dangerously so.

John Klar: Chick-fil-A and the equity-and-justice mess in Randolph

Randolph Union High School is enforcing a free speech blackout on conservatives, while encouraging the most extreme of leftist “theories.” This is political indoctrination in action: it is patently unconstitutional.

McClaughry: PUC, not the legislature, to set heat standard tax rates

That last point I have hammered on before. The hidden tax on your heating fuel will be set not by your legislators, who you can hold accountable at election time, but by three unaccountable strangers who sit on the Public Utility Commission.

Keelan: Legislature out of touch with Vermonters

With some of the legislation being considered and adopted, it is as if the legislative body doesn’t know the anxiety, despair, and stress taking place throughout Vermont. Let’s just keep creating new laws is its mantra.

John Klar: Progressives take over Vermont — Part 3

Vermont’s toxic attackers have demonstrated their true beliefs long enough. They seek to use government to cancel Vermont’s wonderful culture! These people don’t understand Vermonters, or what they are up against.

Roper: Senators admit clean heat standard is a carbon tax

Our legislators are voting to make a law that will radically transform not just our economy but our entire way of life, not really knowing what it is they’re voting for. They don’t know how it works, they don’t know what it will do, they don’t know what it will cost.

Bucknam: Opposition to H.659 has nothing to do with ‘hatred’

Despite Ms. Watson’s claims, Vermont GOP chair Paul Dame did not engage in “pure unadulterated hatred.” He merely stated that parents need to be involved in these decisions. H.659 proposes to allow children of any age to make a decision that could change their health and their lives forever.

Thayer: Parents need to claim their rights in public schools

Government schools and Democrat leaders do not own our children. We must stand up and stop their agenda to take our children away from us by driving wedges between parents and kids. “We the Parents” have rights. Here’s how to exercise them today.

VISA update: Religious school tuition bill’s prospects dim

A bill to address concerns about public tuition payments to religious independent schools appears not to have gained traction in the House Education Committee. After briefly examining the bill House Ed members seemed unenthusiastic about taking it up fully.

Paul Dame: The upcoming ‘mystery tax’ – better known as the clean heat standard

The clean heat standard would intentionally make every kind of home heating fuel more expensive — but we just don’t know how to calculate the increase, or what the total amount will be. It’s one of those common Democrat tactics where they have to pass the bill before they can find out what it does.
