MacDonald: Democrat-run Vermont has been violated by Democrats

Someone broke some windows and spray-painted a threatening message at the State House. Does this classify as a Democrat-on-Democrat hate crime? Did the perps even know radical leftists control state government?

Letter: Discarded used needles a serious problem in Burlington

Our 3-year-old granddaughter picked up a used needle and mistakenly poked a family member with it. Because of the “unknown,” the family member needed to undergo blood tests and now needs to take antiviral meds for a month’s time.

Bernie Sanders: Democrats risk a crushing defeat this year. They must change course now

“The Republicans stand an excellent chance of winning this coming November. The main reason: while the Democratic party has, over the years, been hemorrhaging support from the white working class, it is now losing support from Latino, Black and Asian workers as well.”

Paul Dame: Nearly all Democrats silent on protester vandalism of State House

Almost every other prominent Democrat, from state Senators Becca Balint and Kesha Ram to Congressman Peter Welch and Senator Bernie Sanders, have been completely silent. All have been quick to decry the Supreme Court’s ruling, but not this local unruliness.

McClaughry: Congress and more red flag laws

Why is Congress throwing millions of dollars to states to pay for enactment of red flag laws? Just send them Vermont’s Act 97 of 2018.

Thayer: Thank you, SCOTUS. Now to the People to defeat Proposal 5

My opponent in the Republican primary for lieutenant governor voted for this Prop 5 abortion proposal twice — not once, but two times in the Vermont Senate, in 2019 and again in 2021. We must defeat both of them.

McClaughry: Maine decision points the way toward universal school choice

Last week’s decision moves much closer to that sweeping requirement: all parents — not just tuition town parents — must be given their choice of approved public schools, non-sectarian independent schools, and sectarian independent schools.

Roe reversal a victory for the Tenth Amendment, states

The opinion should be welcomed by all Americans, as it will breathe life into the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

John Klar: South Africa, Vermont and social justice

The progressives attacking our laws, culture, and people with fabricated evidence and foreign ideologies are peddling a destructive, counter-productive toxicity that will fail as miserably in the Green Mountains as it has in South Africa.

Letter: Impressed with Gerald Malloy

Gerald graduated from West Point in 1984, and served as an active duty field artillery officer and a paratrooper. He served our great nation honorably and with distinction for 22 years. He has a MBA from Temple University.

What impact would a gas tax ‘holiday’ have? Not much

Biden’s proposed gas tax holiday is a ploy to distract from the serious energy-related issues brewing under the surface. Unless Congress acts or the administration reverses course, those issues will continue to fester.

McClaughry: When the government isn’t held liable for destroying homes

One of my favorite organizations is Institute for Justice, that defends citizens whose property rights are trampled by governments. One recent case is that of Vicki Baker, who lives in a suburb of Dallas.
