Wilton: Vermont’s education monopoly ‘bigoted’ against religious schools, ‘doesn’t trust parents’

Many states today are following Vermont’s lead and moving toward greater school choice for families, especially after parents have had a firsthand look at public education during the recent pandemic. Ironically, Vermont’s ruling class is considering dismantling our unique system to prevent a few tuition students from selecting religious schools.

Eric Davis: Does SCOTUS gun ruling for New York affect Vermont magazine ban?

The decision, combined with the fact that the Supreme Court has also remanded two separate cases regarding magazine capacity limits back to the 3rd and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to be reheard under the context of Bruen, has huge implications for states like Vermont.

Paul Dame: Government by the Dems and for the Dems just isn’t working

As Progressive Democrats have moved farther to the extreme left and abandoned the basic principles of good government, it gives an opportunity to Republicans, independents, and even JFK Democrats to declare their independence from the government currently in power.

Dr. Sandy Reider: Vaccination will confer no benefit to children

Many of our youth have already contracted and recovered from Covid-19, and thus now have robust and durable immunity that is far superior to what the shots provide. Immunity from natural infection has in every instance been far superior to that provided by vaccines.

Tom Evslin: U.S. Supreme Court EPA decision an ‘important step to preserving our republic’

People say about this issue and many others, “Congress didn’t act so the President had to do something!” These are well meaning people, but they are really saying “if Democracy doesn’t give the results I think are necessary, then we need to have a dictatorship.”

Doug Hoffer: State Supreme Court dealt blow to transparency in OneCare Vermont case

This is truly a dark day for Vermonters, since the sun will no longer shine on the use of hundreds of millions of dollars of your tax dollars. I look forward to working with advocates of government accountability and transparency to find a remedy to today’s regressive ruling.

Mark Shepard: Reaching again toward America’s mission

We as neighbors can finally work together to address the tragedy of unwanted pregnancies in a humane, and more effective, way. Clearly, laws that eliminate personal responsibility failed.

Keelan: In regards to guns, we must address the criminal, not the gun

The president signed the bipartisan Safer Communities Act into law. It will have a minimum impact until our elected leaders realize we must address the criminal, not the gun. If you use a firearm or provide the weapon for any unlawful purpose, you should be removed from society for a long time.

Op-Ed: Celebrate our independence by reflecting on the promise of our republic

What makes us Americans is not our race, religion, or a single defining culture but instead a shared belief in the cry for freedom put to pen 246 years ago and the resulting republican form of government secured by our Constitution.

John Klar: With food crisis looming, Shelburne Farms squandering resources on social justice

Instead of contributing important agricultural knowledge to solve food crises for all people equitably, Shelburne Farms has squandered resources on an ideological fallacy, serving up race discussions to divide Vermonters in that great time of need.

Matt Krauss: Shouldn’t Barre have a state senator?

The possibility of two former Montpelier mayors representing Washington County as state senators while Barre has none strikes me as fundamentally unfair and wrong for the citizens of Washington County.
