Senior citizens would get hit hardest by a $15 minimum wage

Businesses would have to pass on the higher cost of labor to their customers in the form of higher prices for goods and services. Senior citizens living on fixed incomes would, therefore, have to pay more for things like food, nursing care, household help, and so on, with no boost in income.

Medicare for All would redistribute federal funds away from states that spend more on health care in favor of those that spend comparatively less. Bringing Vermont’s health care expenditure to the national average would cause a 31 percent decrease in federal funding, which would prompt Montpelier to raise taxes.

California Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown issued an executive order Monday mandating “carbon neutrality” by 2045, then ordering the state to “maintain net negative emissions thereafter.”
