Sen. Joe Benning: Responsible stewardship

Ruling in Minnesota wedding videographers’ case properly prioritizes First Amendment rights

The truth is that none of these businesses refuse service to gay or lesbian people, nor wish to do so. The vast majority of business activities do not affect anyone’s freedom of speech or religion.

Roper: Biden illustrates the idiocy of Green New Deal policies

During the seven hour CNN marathon town hall on climate change with the Democratic candidates, Joe Biden hit on the true scientific reality about the policies being offered up as solutions — they won’t work.

Opinion: Why the right to bear arms is an individual right

Cooke noted that Vermont’s Constitution states, “the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the State,” clearly defining bearing arms as a right with the means to the end of defending oneself and the community.

John Klar: Green tyranny and the tragedy of the eco-commons

Around our nation, Americans are concluding that individuals have crept into their governing commons, like sheep thieves, to appropriate “common” resources for individual or interest-group enrichment. And nowhere is this more evident than the so-called carbon tax.

EAI: Are you ready for the ‘Climate Strike and Week of Action’?

The objective is to encourage people to skip work and, for students, to skip school, go out and block traffic, picket offices and businesses, and generally disrupt people’s ability to function in their daily lives. It is a massive temper tantrum orchestrated to intimidate legislators and citizens.

Opinion: Independence, not welfare, should be for everyone

I am very aware that there are individuals who are destitute and need help, and I am thankful that I am not one of them. But giving many of these individuals assistance without an expectation of a return is merely enslaving them in the programs.

Frenier: Is teaching gender a matter of tolerance or indoctrination?

It is time for Vermonters, parents and non-parents alike, to examine and express our opinions about what is being taught to our children in the name of tolerance by people who may be well-meaning but are confusing indoctrination with education.

Green New Deal architect says it’s not about climate, it’s about economics

“Do you guys think of it as a climate thing?” said Chakrabarti to his surprised fellow leftist. “Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.”

Roper: Insurance hikes aren’t rate increases, they’re tax increases

At what point will Vermonters wake up to the fact that allowing government involvement in health care is a very expensive mistake? It will probably be a while because ratepayers, I suspect, aren’t as angry with the politicians as they are with the insurance companies, and this isn’t really fair.

Flemming: In fight against climate change, could we just plant more trees?

Perhaps environmentalists should stop investing so much money in lobbying for draconian and burdensome carbon taxes on Vermonters. Then they can really push back against climate change by investing those lobbying dollars into planting new trees.

An open letter to teachers from former AFT & AFL-CIO president

The Janus decision gives union members a reason to reflect on their membership. Now you have the option of withdrawing from the union and paying no fees (which used to be up to 85% of full dues). Another choice is to drop your membership.
