Bernie Sanders won’t reveal cost of Medicare for All because ‘it’s such a huge number’

Democratic 2020 candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders said Thursday that he won’t put a price tag on his government takeover of the health care system because the figure is “such a huge number.”

The Vermont senator again declined to say how much his Medicare-for-All plan would cost during an interview with The Washington Post on Thursday.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

“I don’t give a number and I’ll tell you why — it’s such a huge number and it’s so complicated that if I gave a number, you and 50 other people would go through it and say, ‘Oh … ’” Sanders told a Post reporter.

Sanders has repeatedly avoided saying how much his Medicare-for-All plan would cost, although he acknowledged he will raise taxes on most Americans as part of his plan, which would abolish private health insurance plans. Sanders said in August that “nobody” knows how much his plan will end up costing.

One report estimated the Sanders plan could cost over $32 trillion over the course of a decade, in addition to killing as many as 2 million jobs.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, another 2020 Democratic candidate, has been more open about the cost of her Medicare-for-All plan — she puts the figure at $52 trillion — though she has insisted middle-class Americans won’t see tax increases.

  1. Bernie is no different than the rest of them,. Promises, promises, then after being elected them get a case of flaming amnesia. At least with Donald Trump you get promises made, PROMISES KEPT!!! People voting for him got exactly what he said he would do.

  2. The real reason burnee Can’t tell the peons the real cost (besides not having a clue)
is because the Peons will have to have their taxes dramatically raised to pay for it making it not such
a desirable product of Government. Health Insurance is only one of his proposals and we
would already be out of money for the Green $crew Deal… Socialism isn’t cheap….

  3. How can any sane adult believe in this clown anymore than one would believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy? At least the last three succeeded in making people feel good when they were young. Sanders has spent his life irritating, agitating, instigating, stirring envy and jealousy along with class warfare and the only one who has profited from this is Sanders himself. The shortcomings of some are always blamed on the successes of others. If you have failed then someone else is to blame. If you aren’t wealthy it is because someone else is. Yet there are always the mind numbed suckers who fall prey to the call of communism and the siren song of socialism. Just like any good marxist or union leader you can never let the people be happy and content for one minute or you put yourself out of a job. Back in the 70’s I met one of the first government paid social workers in Vermont. He was disgusted with those he considered poor and in need of welfare but who were too dumb to know that they were poor and resisted his efforts to push money they hadn’t earned on them. Sanders is no different. His only road to success is convincing you that you are being kept down by the company, the rich, the successful, big corporations, or some other boogey man of his invention.

  4. How much freedom will it cost, Bernie? How much of our individual autonomy, our free will, surrendered to the Fascist centralized controllers, the Independent Payment Advisory Board that decides if you’re worth the cost?

  5. Babbling Bernie. He has been ranting and raving for years but never getting anything done and never having a way to pay for any of his rants.
When are people ever going to pay attention to his zero accomplishments especially teachers.

  6. Vermont’s Barking Baffoon, again spewing his socialist rhetoric, more of his ” Free Stuff ”
for all agenda………… If Sanders’s lips are moving he’s spewing pure BS…… for a vote !!

Hey Bernie, tell the US Citizens the cost of you’re boondoggle and let see if it’s really
feasible, Nah ………………just smoke & mirrors

    Vermont we deserve better

  7. Well Sanders, just what we want…… something that we don’t know what the cost will be!
Are you a loonie tune? Retire and do the country a huge favor!
