Bernie Sanders on President Biden’s student debt announcement

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday issued the following statement after President Biden announced a plan for student debt relief:

U.S. Senate

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

“The president’s decision today to reduce the outrageous level of student debt in our country is an important step forward in providing real financial help to a struggling middle class. Today’s announcement to reduce up to $10,000 in student debt for working class Americans and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients will eliminate student debt for some 20 million Americans and reduce debt for some 43 million. The result of this decision is that millions of Americans will now be in a better position to start families, or buy the homes and cars they have long needed. This is a big deal.

“But we have got to do more. At a time of massive income and wealth inequality, education, from pre-school through graduate school, must be a fundamental right for all, not a privilege for the wealthy few. If the United States is going to effectively compete in the global economy we need the best educated workforce in the world, and that means making public colleges and universities tuition free as many other major countries currently do – and that includes trade schools and minority-serving institutions as well. In the year 2022, in the wealthiest country on earth, everyone in America who wants a higher education should be able to get that education without going into debt.”

  1. Sorry, Bernie, but you are confused. Giving massive payoffs to students who have already gone to college is NOT helping those you say you want to help – minorities, the average American, and the poor. Instead, Biden is giving more money and ‘relief” to the wealthy and the elites and letting the average American, the poor working class American pay for it via more inflation and higher income taxes. Kind of a non sequitor, wouldn’t you say? And a deliberate one sadly that is too often used by Progressives to try and con Americans into believing the Democrats actually care about them and are working for them. Scary!

  2. Ya know.. eventually the productive stop pulling the wagon for the non-productive..
Like Margaret Thatcher said.. something about running out of other people’s money.. remember that?
    Then what will you do?
This is just the scenario that Bernie works so hard to bring us too.

Anything that people get for Free, has no value.. is that what we want to make higher education into? Something with no value?

Anyone thinking about the quality of the humans that we are creating here in America in recent decades?
When you look at young people today.. does it seem like we’ve been on the right track?
