Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders knocked President Donald Trump in his response to the State of The Union address Tuesday night.
“The American people do not want a president who is compulsively dishonest, who is a bully, who actively represents the interests of the billionaire class, who is anti-science, and who is trying to divide us up based on the color of our skin, our nation of origin, our religion, our gender, or our sexual orientation,” Sanders said.
The failed 2016 presidential candidate fell back on familiar talking points during the speech, railing against “income inequality” and demanding increases to government welfare programs and more permissive immigration policies.
“Trump talked about DACA and immigration but what he did not tell the American people is that he precipitated this crisis in September by repealing President Obama’s executive order protecting the Dreamers,” Sanders said.
“We need to seriously address the issue of immigration but that does not mean dividing families and reducing legal immigration by 25 to 50 percent,” the senator concluded. “It surely does not mean forcing the tax payers of our country to spend $25 billion on a wall that candidate Trump promised us that Mexico would pay for and it definitely doesn’t mean a racist immigration policy that divides people from around the world.”

Senator Sanders. You, Leahy, Welch, Pelosi, Schumer, etc. etc. etc. have been in office longer than most of us care to remember. During the first term of Obama your ilk had total control of Washington. Please explain to me why, if immigration reform is so damned important, where was/is the Democrat plan to reform it? Is your only plan to just continue to operate this vile double system where some immigrants do all the right things, play by the rules, wait in line, jump through hoops, while millions of others run across our borders like criminals in the night and treat our laws with total disrespect. We make wonderful, highly educated doctors and scientists from the rest of the world navigate this ridiculous maze of rules and regulations to come here while a bunch of illiterate and unskilled criminals from south of the border are welcomed by you with open arms. Please explain this for me.
I think that we can basically agree that Bernie would have opposed whatever Trump would have said in his speech and so would all his cohorts. No matter what.
Now, several items brought up in Trumps speech, and for which the Democrats booed and didn’t give an applause, happened to be items brought up by 2 previous DEMOCRATIC presidents in their state of the union addresses, and for which they received Democratic applause. Curious isn’t it….

Are you proposing that voter fraud was so much worse than even the worst estimates that Obama was elected despite the American People not wanting him? There can be no question he was dishonest – “You can keep your doctor..” A bully “I have a pen and a phone..” He didn’t hurt the “billionaire class” at all but he made a lot of people poorer, put them on public assistance. Anti science? The Paris climate agreement (that he didn’t submit to the Senate for confirmation)? He sure did do an impressive job at Balkanizing the country into individual interest groups – and he came out of it a multi millionaire, all through politics – as did the Clintons. Hillary’s promise to continue his programs certainly didn’t help her any.
Francisco Machado – you’ve echoed my thoughts exactly. I find quite often that what Liberals/Dems/Progressives accuse their opposition of is what they, themselves, are guilty of. (oh, I DO hate ending a sentence with a preposition . .sorry).
Trump offered a path to citizenship and three times the number of dreamers Democrats asked for and they still turned him down. The same glum faces for more insrastructure , lowest Black unemployment rate on record. All things democrats have pushed in the past. You can bet if Hillary gave the same speech they would be cheering.

What this carpetbagger needs to do is take permanent retirement in his Vacation home that
Hillary helped pay for, better yet move back to NY ……. They deserve him !!
