Scott: First phase of paid family and medical leave program coverages approved

Implementing a paid family and medical leave program in Vermont is taking steps closer to becoming a reality. The Department of Financial Regulation has approved coverages and rates for the Vermont Family and Medical Leave Insurance Plan, Gov. Phil Scott said Thursday.

Underage, non-citizen voting vetoes face override

H.386 would allow 16-17 year olds to vote in municipal elections and hold local office. H.509 would allow non-citizens to vote in local elections. A veto override session will be held June 20-22.

Carbon-based fuels are not heavily subsidized — debunking another misleading green energy study

A popular talking point among green energy evangelists is that gas, oil, and coal are, in large part, successful because they are highly subsidized. The supposed data they are drawing on to come to such a conclusion is misleading.

Scott vetoes bill that would have granted pay raises to General Assembly

Maybe Burlington should ask the homeless to serve in a community improvement corps in return for all the benefits that are attracting them there. But then Burlington would have to say no to the homeless who didn’t care to participate.

McClaughry: Electric heat and frozen pipes

What these Vermont legislators cannot grasp is that relying on electric heat is just not feasible in a Vermont winter. It might work in New Mexico, but even there you see these power failures that cripple the society.
