McClaughry: Democracy requires an informed electorate

I have long been a firm believer that effective democracy requires an informed electorate advising candidates as to what’s important to them and what should be done or not done about it. I am disappointed by the unwillingness of today’s candidates to engage with voters on the really important issues.

Keelan: Is a new home affordable, even at $200 per square foot?

With interest rates at 7.6% and climbing, construction costs at record levels, and construction labor in short supply, it is not the time to build. It is, however, time for towns and villages to plan and acquire housing sites with zoning and all approvals in place.

Wendy Bucchieri: Article 22 is sleeper cell legislation

There is one word in this article that every Vermonter should shudder at, whether you are pro-life or pro-choice. I’m calling it the legislative sleeper cell. The word is “unless.”

Jay Eshelman: Laboratories of democracy

Vermont’s Article 22 is infinitely more open-ended in its possibilities than the proposed Michigan amendment. The unforeseen, and perhaps unintended, consequences of passing Vermont’s Article 22 cannot be overstated.

Bastasch: Biden Admin determined to keep climate apocalypse fears alive, science be damned

As renowned climate alarmist David Wallace-Wells writes, the “worst-case temperature scenarios that recently seemed plausible now look much less so, which is inarguably good news and … a truly underappreciated sign of genuine and world-shaping progress.” In other words, the apocalypse is canceled.
