Facebook sued by 48 states, Federal Trade Commission over allegations of monopolistic practices

New York Attorney General Letitia James, along with the attorneys general of 47 other states and the Federal Trade Commission, accuse Facebook of using its dominant market position to acquire and otherwise crush competitors, tactics that amount to monopolistic abuse that harm users.

Texas has filed an unprecedented motion with the U.S. Supreme Court, asking for leave to file a complaint against the states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin over the 2020 presidential election. The motion alleges that changes made in election rules in those states violated the Constitution.

In a public statement issued Dec. 7, Vermont Gov. Phil Scott contrasted the number of Americans killed during the Dec. 7, 1941 Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor — 2,463 — with the 8,913 Americans who died Dec. 3-6 of Covid-19.

New Hampshire state revenue comes in stronger than anticipated

Business tax revenues were much higher than predicted, indicating the businesses which pay it are doing well. Revenues from business profits and enterprise taxes could produce between $768.4 million, a $17.7 million deficit, to $792.2 million, a $6.1 million surplus.

It would also give New Hampshire’s tourism industry another competitive edge over Vermont’s. Our legislature has not expressed an interest in reducing Vermont’s rooms and meals tax or providing any other kind of tax or regulatory relief.
