American Medical Association opposes states that outlaw surgical, chemical castration of minor children

By Mary Margaret Olohan

The American Medical Association urged governors Monday to take a stand against laws banning transgender surgeries and procedures for minors.

American Medical Association (AMA) CEO James Madara sent an open letter to the National Governors Association Monday calling laws banning transgender surgeries for minors “a dangerous governmental intrusion into the practice of medicine,” noting that transgender and nonbinary gender identities “are normal variations of human identity and expression,” according to NBC News.

“As with all medical interventions, physicians are guided by their ethical duty to act in the best interest of their patients and must tailor recommendations about specific interventions and the timing of those interventions to each patient’s unique circumstances,” Madara wrote, the publication reported.

“Such decisions must be sensitive to the child’s clinical situation, nurture the child’s short and long-term development, and balance the need to preserve the child’s opportunity to make important life choices autonomously in the future,” he continued.

At least 16 states have taken action to ban doctors from performing transgender surgeries and procedures on minors, the Daily Caller News Foundation previously reported. Arkansas became the first state to ban the surgeries when the state’s legislature voted to override Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s veto of the “Save Adolescents From Experimentation Act.”

Arkansas’ SAFE Act prohibits physicians from performing gender transition procedures, such as puberty blockers or “top” and “bottom” surgeries, on minors.

Polling conducted by the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation found that 57% of Americans oppose allowing minors with gender dysphoria to receive gender transition surgery, puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones.

Madara warned in his letter that these laws “would insert the government into clinical decision-making and force physicians to disregard clinical guidelines.”

“Transgender children, like all children, have the best chance to thrive when they are supported and can obtain the health care they need,” he wrote. “It is imperative that transgender minors be given the opportunity to explore their gender identity under the safe and supportive care of a physician.”

The AMA did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the DCNF.

  1. The government is already “inserted” into the lives of minors in dozens of ways. Think school, vaccinations, driving, voting, etc. The AMA thinks it’s a god while they perform abortions, transgender surgery, unnecessary surgeries, and over 60K unwanted sterilizations during the 20th century. Puberty blockers are still experimental drugs and the AMA wants to put their use in the hands of people? I’m astounded.

Let’s not forget that the suicide rate is 20x higher for transgenders than other people. The definition of “dysphoria” is a mismatch between body and internal sense of gender. That’s a psychosis, not a condition. James Madara is a pompous ass.

  2. What ever happened do, “Do no harm”? I have advanced prostate cancer. Part of the treatment for prostate cancer is hormone treatment i.e. chemical suppression of testosterone along with radiation after my prostate was removed in 2016. For at least a year after a 4 month treatment for the testosterone I was very weak. During the actual treatment I had hot flashes. My wife said she never had them as bad as me. I could not sleep and had bad leg cramps especially in my lower legs. I am still not right and this was done in Sept.-Oct of 2018. Now, because they can’t figure out where the cancer is continuing to grow they want to go back to chemical castration i.e. hormone treatments. Testosterone causes cancerous prostate cells to continue to grow. This I will not let them do, I was miserable. All the Dr.s that think this is a good idea should be required to get 6mo. to a year of treatment. Any parents who are thinking of it should also be required to go through it. Let the kids grow up!

  3. Brainwashed “Kids ” yes kids being told nonsense about their sexuality by left-leaning
adults in our education system, maybe a case for child abuse ??

Let kids be kids and let them sort out their own feelings, not some twisted adult !!

  4. I thought the whole idea of going through puberty was to understand your sexuality. You know the whole becoming a man or a woman thing.

Maybe it’s that these children are hypersexualized prior to going through puberty and that makes them uncomfortable and unsure? I’m thinking the media doesn’t help here… I’ve seen children shows that advocate for all manors of sexuality. You’re out of your mind if you don’t think that media such as television or YouTube doesn’t affect your child more than it affects you. It’s designed to do so and they have had far less time to understand what it does to them. I can’t even imagine how teachers speak about this now, but I’m 100% positive I wouldn’t approve.

I remember a reading quite a few studies back in 2016 or so that said that most children figure that out as they go through puberty that a medical change isn’t what they want once their hormones have stabilized (puberty).

To me it’s ridiculous that we even have to have this conversation. They’re children and don’t need to concern themselves with any of this yet.

    WTF.
